Methodology
How we measure.
What we collect, how the indices are built, and how every article is made.
What we collect
Every morning we visit the public homepages and deal pages of 178 retailers in 11 markets. We record facts about promotions: that a promotion exists, its dates, its advertised discount and which categories it covers. For a small, fixed basket of products we also record prices, so we can compare an advertised discount with the lowest price of the prior 30 days, as the EU Omnibus directive requires retailers to show.
We only read public pages, never behind a login or paywall. We respect each site's robots.txt and terms, keep request rates low, and identify ourselves. We do not copy catalogues.
What we read
National newspapers, trade press and retail associations in each market, in their own language. Signals about upcoming campaigns are translated and classified into English.
How the indices work
The Promo Heat Index (0–100) combines the share of tracked retailers on promotion, the number of live campaigns and the average discount depth, for each market, category and day. Our other indices are described on the indices page. Every index has a version number; when a method changes we announce it and recompute history.
History before we started live tracking is reconstructed from public web archives of the same sources. Reconstructed values are labelled as such.
How articles are made
Our data collection and first drafts are produced with the help of AI agents. Every article, Daily Brief and social post is reviewed, edited where needed and approved by our editor before publication, and the editor holds editorial responsibility for it. Figures in articles come from our own data, and outside sources are linked. More on how we work and our crawler.
Independence
Dealmeteo is independent and not affiliated with any retailer we track. Retailer names and trademarks belong to their owners. Links to retailers are not affiliate links.
